I fjor avslørte filmskaper Ron Reiner at han jobbet med en oppfølger til «The Spinal Tap», den uhyre underholdende mockumentarien om det legendariske britiske metalbandet The Spinal Tap. 

For et par dager siden bekreftet den samme Reiner, på Richard Herring’s RHLSTP podcast, at Paul McCartney, Elton John og Garth Brooks også vil delta. Reiner fortalte at innspillingen begynner i februar 2024, og at det fiktive metalbandet fremdeles vil bestå av skuespillerene Christopher Guest, Michael McKean og Harry Shearer. Reiners rolle som filmskaper Marty DiBergi vil også dukke opp i filmen. 

I mai 2022 fortalte Rainer følgende til Deadline:  «The plan is to do a sequel that comes out on the 40th anniversary of the original film. I can tell you hardly a day goes by without someone saying, why don’t you do another one? For so many years, we said, ‘nah.’ It wasn’t until we came up with the right idea how to do this. You don’t want to just do it, to do it. You want to honor the first one and push it a little further with the story.»
